i’d also recommend not using bridge for rendering panoramas, especially big panoramas. i use autopano pro(it’s more than decently priced 99euro) – http://www.autopano.net . this software supports GPU processing: so if you have a good graphics card it will speed thing up quite considerably.here’s what they say about performance http://www.autopano.net/wiki-en/action/view/Enhancing_Autopano%27s_performance

i also recommend upgrading to a professional graphics card if you want to speed up photoshop or any other professional editing software. i’m using quadroFX580. i can say i definitely noticed an increase in performance since upgrading (i’m using mostly photoshop).

i use adobe bridge to view the raw files and than photoshop to edit. why? it works for me. i find it easy to look at/rate/organize images in bridge and than easily edit with PS.

this might not be the best gigapixel image but, technically it’s still great. here’s one of the first gigapixel images http://www.harlem-13-gigapixels.com. at the time the harlem images was produced there was no software capable of stitching such a big image. so autopano wrote it for them.

you need to invoice them for more than 100 euro! 50 euro is a joke! the effectively broke the law by using your image without your written permission. go to a solicitor. i know of a very recent case in galway where someone used some image taken from the internet without permission and they settled for 800 euro. it was no big publication and they only used it online. so don’t be afraid to talk to them about this, no matter how big they are. know your rights!

i’m afraid that we’ll see more an more of this ”terrorist act” bulls**t. it seems that any uneducated official can invoke the ”terrorist act” whenever the people he/she’s harassing seem to know their rights. when will it stop?

like other posters have said: if nothing else was written on the card after formatting you should be fine. i was able to recover images after 2 formats from a bad CF card. even is somethig was written on the card after the format all is not lost, just the pics in the sectors that were over written – so you’ll only loose a few images. if the SD is a sandisk they have a really good software http://www.lc-tech.com/software/rprodetail.html. you can download a demo version and you’ll be able to run a recovery with it but it won’t let you save the images though. it’ll even give you a preview of the rescued images. good luck, and do’nt worry too much about it: TIHS HAPPENS a lot!

the rules of the competition are pretty clear though, and they do ask you weather the image was taken in the wild or not or if the animals photographed are trained or not… they emphasize on images that show the wild animals in their own natural environment, and not on images of pets (i.e. trained animals). it is called the ”wildlife photographer of the year”competition after all…
