hi john, would be very interested in the 100mm lens…but probably not at that price as it can be purchased new on ebay from the UK for about ?360 + ?20 shipping….Can you tell me how old the lens is (where purchased and if any warranty remaining) and if it has any marks on the body…any sample pictures taken with it? sharp copy? cheers. -t

if not though and if youre just getting into slr photography the 400D is a great choice (and if the 450D comes out will probably drop significantly in price). As for lenses people tend to slate the kit lens but its not too bad and again will get you started. i would recommend though that you pick up a canon 50mm f/1.8 (otherwise known as the nifty fifty.) Can probably be gotten for less than $100 and is a cracker of a lens…really sharp and excellent for low light conditions. hope that helps

extension tubes are a really cheap and easy way to get into macro photography without buying a dedicated macro lens. they are hollow tubes (some relay autofocussing info between lens and body) which sit between the lens and the body and allow for increased magnification….but at a cost (the amount of light hitting the sensor decreases when tubes are used…so you need either a fast lens (50mm f1.8) or a tripod…and preferably both). I got a set of 3 tubes from Jessops at Christmas and I really enjoy shooting with them…Ive just posted up some of my first pics with them on the Macro forum if anyone is interested.

your kit lens really isnt gonna get you much joy in the macro world. as a start id recommend you get yourself a set (they usualy come in 3’s) of extension tubes (kenko are good and reasonably cheap) and a tripod. this will give you the opportunity to increase the amount of magnification you’ve got at your disposal. i got a set for christmas and have been using them with my nifty fifty and im really happy with some of the shots ive captured (posted some on this forum just now)
