Thanks to everyone, and especially Jenny for organisation, great day and great weather!
Sorry I had to leave so early to get my taxi, I didn’t get to say goodbye, but was a really productive day.
Was very surprised at one of the puffins popping up between my feet, I thought I was above his burrow but not that close!
I’ve got a little article up explaining mostly the difference between a D5000 and D90, but it does go in depth over the main features of a D5000 and what it means to use it for photography (specifications only tell you so much, sometimes)
D5000 will have in-camera sensor cleaning, I don’t know about the 500D. Been good so far, a blower every once in awhile and dust is not a problem for me (I check every so often)
I’m a confirmed, hopefully the public transport will get me there in time :) !
Where are you travelling from? As far as I know there are no buses/trains that go into Kilmore Quay, only
to Rosslare and it would be a few miles from Rosslare.
Darn! I’m going from Dublin, so I guess I could get a taxi from Rosslare? Early early start for me, then :)
Would anyone be able to give a lift from Dublin city centre or Heuston, please? I’d be more than happy to pay for petrol and toll!
The 50mm 1.8D will not autofocus on the D5000, unfortunately. The AF-S 50mm and the Sigma 50mm HSM will, so if that is important, they’d be worth a look?
The 35mm f1.8G will autofocus and is very cheap, the only issue is you may have to get close to your subject, it may be discomforting for some, but if not, its a great lens for the price!
Have you got serial numbers for any of these, or certain markings or scratches in specific places, dwhphotos? I scour ebay quite a bit, so if I saw anything, I’d be sure to check twice for you.
These make a really nice change to the typical zoo shots one sees, the wolf especially almost looks taken in the wild (I am NOT a nature photographer by any stretch of the word :) )
The only comments I might make is a possible slight crop out of the sky reflection on the right of the elephant shot (this is purely my aesthetic opinion!) and I would have liked to see a bit more of the wolf’s body. I would thus crop the wolf photo heavily on the left.
Post processing and colours look alright to me, I am not really qualified to judge them technically :) but I would personally be pleased with them, especially the second, the colours remind me of some of the old Nat Geo pics.
Good job all round, I think, I’d be glad with these :)
A slight suggestion if I may, for some of the photos in the gallery, I’d sharpen them a bit more, almost oversharpened even, as they’re being displayed on the web. They look very soft to me, althought I may be wrong!
