Sure, no problem. I’ll text you my number and you can ring me when you can make it. It’s probably going to be a while until you can use them any, I presume the workshops won’t be running for a while.
when I get to work I’ll do a list of what I have to give you an idea of the quantity of stuff. Would you have any use for some colour paper (Kodak Endura 10×8)
Sorry for the late reply. I only say your message on Thursday night when I got home from Dublin so was too late to see it in time.
I’m in DCU again on Friday morning so I’ll sort it out then. You were saying to leave it for collection and you would arrange to pick them up. I can pack the, up but unfortunately there is nowhere here that I can leave them for collection. Is there some place that I can drop it off where you could collect it. I will be travelling from DCU to Gorey via the M50 and M11 so would there be somewhere on route that would be convenient? I expect to be leaving at about one o’clock.
David
Just seeing this now. I have some paper in work if you want it. It’s mostly old Ilford 10×8 multigrade and a few larger sizes. I will be in work (Dublin City University) on Thursday and I will check what I have. I’ll let you know and we can make arrangements for you to either collect it or I can post it out. The postage will be substantial though as there are several boxes.
Hi Denise, the AGM was last Thursday, 10th of October, in the Loch Garman Arms. I wasn’t at it but I reckon that the next meeting will then be on in the same location on Thursday 24th at 8pm. It’s held upstairs but if you ask at the bar they will point you in the right direction. I can’t guarantee that this is correct because the AGM had been rescheduled from the previous week to accommodate a guest lecture. I won’t be there myself as I am always late out of work on a Thursday but if I hear anything other than the above time I’ll post it here for you. If you’re passing the Loch Garman you could drop in and ask at the counter.
Good luck, David
No.
Make a reasonable offer and we can come to a deal. I don’t need it and never actually used it because my darkroom at home was just too small to accommodate such a beast. I had great aspirations for it at the time.
Hi, are you still looking for a darkroom easel. I have a Saunders 20×24 4-blade easel, model no UA2024 if you are interested, in absolutely perfect condition.
There’s a camera club set up in Gorey some months back and they meet up in the Loch Garman Arms every second Thursday at 8 o’clock. It’s new and finding its feet but has a good bunch of enthusiastic members and well worth getting involved. They’re organising meeting up with various clubs around the county and are planning various competitions and trips. They have a Facebook page, if you did a search for it you should find it easy enough. I’ve been to a few meetings but haven’t been involved that much as I tend to get home late from work. If you need more info on how to get in touch, send me a pm and I can pass on more contact details.

Excuses, excuses!!! Is there not a metering prism on the camera? Or you could use you Canon’s meter. How long is it now since we met up in Gorey, I would have expected enough film through the camera to line the streets of Wexford. The problem with film is that it lacks the immediacy of digital and requires more work before you see any results. You take your pics and then don’t find out that you’ve mucked up until its too late and then the light’s gone or the subject has flown or whatever. I have about ten rolls of film on my desk waiting to be processed, that says it all! By the time I process them, the impetus is gone. I haven’t given up yet though. Still love film and even bought a second-hand camera on eBay recently, an Olympus 35sp rangefinder.
So there’s hope for you yet, just get the finger out and get some more (decent) photos up here.
Hi Chris,
I have the following if you are interested-
16mm f2.8
20mm f2.8
28mm f2
35mm f2
50mm f1.4
85mm f1.4
105mm f1.8
180mm f2.8
and a set of Nikon extension tubes.
Also have a Tamron 17mm f3.5
What camera are you using? If it’s a Nikon DX format camera then I could give you a loan of a 55-200 lens to try out and see if it is what you had in mind. It’s not a fast lens, an f4.5/5.6 I think, but it is light and easy to use and might be what you need. Most likely, the lens on your camera is in the 18-55 range, ie a moderate wide angle to a short telephoto. The lens I have would bring you a lot closer to your subject.
If your camera is a Nikon DX format then we’re in business, PM me if it is and we’ll take it from there, David
I had a hard drive failure in a Macbook a few weeks ago, cost was €320 for a data recovery and a new hard disk. From Mactivate in Blanchardstown.
Try the Apple Outlet online for the cheapest ‘new’ MBP. Adverts.ie for second hand
The exact same thing happened me just before Christmas with a new MacbookPro, I only had it a few months. Mactivate fixed it for me under warranty (even though we didn’t buy it from them), the collected and delivered it, and backed up all the data. The only charged me for the delivery/collection and for the back-up. An excellent service and might be worth looking them up.
JB’s advice of a refurb is a good one and would be worth following up, otherwise you won’t get any cheapies or bargains. Apple don’t do sales and their agents tend to be the same. Apple do specials for students if you fall in to that category. Have a look at their educational pricing here in the DCU section http://store.apple.com/ie_aoc_137756″ onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false; to give you an idea. If you know a student then it could be a help.
. . . and if that works, do what JB says above – BACK UP
If you are on Mac OS 10.5 + it would be worth your while to get Time Machine running. It’s very handy.
Check your user accounts in your preferences to see if what accounts are there and check to see if your own account still exists. It could be that when you shut down that your Mac automatically logs in under a different account rather than the new one you set up. If you see that your preferred user account is visible in the preferences folder than set your Mac to use this as your default on start-up. To do this, at the bottom of the User Accounts list there is a panel which has ‘Log-In options’ on it. When you click on this a new box will open and you will see on this an option to set your preferential user account default.
Hopefully this will solve your problem,
David
