Ah! I only just saw this! So I guess they are not very specific with their briefs! Hopefully your tutor will get back to you soon. What did you end up doing for your photoshoot? 15 pics sounds pretty good!

i ended up shooting the galway cathedral but it started pouring down so i moved to the inside only got 3 good pics cause the lighting wasn’t great and didn’t want to use the flash because its a church and there were people there praying and i didn’t want to seem disrespectful in any way so iv ended up with 12 exterior and 3 interior pics

That sounds great, I’m really looking forward to getting started! That’s a definite yes on the brainstorming! Is there a lot of writing involved?

it doesn’t seem too bad but there are quite a bit of notes with the course i’m just trying to write up the brief for the first shoot. i emailed my tutor to ask him is there a certain amounts of words that are needed for the brief and how many pics should be included and what size.

i did my photoshoot last week got 86 pics but because of lighting issues and weather issues im down to 15 hq pics

    Hi, tmcd,
I have just registered for this site, as I’m just about to start that course, I’ve applied for it, just waiting for confirmation. I’d be interested in knowing how you’re finding it so far. It’s good to know there’s somebody out there doing it at the same time. I hope you’re enjoying it! :)

hi lava. i am glad to know someone else here is doing the same as i am. iv done my photoshoot and it was simple enough for me anyways but it doesn’t give me much to write about so iv hit a wall temporarily please let me know when you get your assignments maybe we could brainstorm or something haha

Haven’t done anything similar, but if you’re having trouble starting, perhaps looking through your existing images for themes you would like to explore more, might be a good way to generate a little momentum. Many famous photographers work that way, shooting and then exploring what interesting themes or thoughts for projects emerge when they look through their work.

Of course you can always do it the other way around, set a brief, and shoot it, which would be more representative of the way certain professions like commercial photography and perhaps photojournalism work.

Common advice when choosing a theme or a project is not to be too broad when doing so, but instead narrow in on aspects of larger projects or themes.

Good luck with your assignment and course :)

thank you for helping me out. the theme iv decided on is architecture and the location/building i’m going to shoot is the galway cathedral. im still deciding on a back up location
