Thanks for the tips & link guys. I was hoping not to have to do it post processing. I’ll give it a shot and if I can’t get the look I want, I guess I’ll just have to splash out on a background support afterall!

Thanks monochrome. I’ve been told that the eyes are always the place a person will look at first when they view a photo :)

It depends, when the viewer is a man, it doesn´t have to be always true :D

Ok, well I will guess that it is when it’s headshots then!

Yes, when you’re not pretty you’ve got ‘character’ !! . Did you use only natural light? I like the expression of the first lady behind, it’s a soft contrast to the main character who looks quite severe.

For me it’s all about this man, who although from Ireland it says Italiano or Greek.

Yes I definitely had a whole different setting for this in my own mind. Sometimes it’s best not to know the context of the photo. Since now that I know it’s a wedding it has lost it’s mystery for me … but that’s not to take away from the shot at all. It’s still wonderful :)

I love the moment that is captured here and the tones are amazing. Makes me want to know more about this man’s story. Great shot!

Great shot Andy, my only suggestion would be to maybe tone down the skin tones a little. They seem a little orange-y as they are.

Don’t forget to get a new focussing screen for those fast lenses, esp if you’re contemplating doing manual focus work….

Thanks for that reminder. It’s not something I had thought about at all!!!

Yes I love the composition too. It’s a great shot but it looks like the trees have been cut from a white background and pasted on. They haven’t of course but the processing sorta makes it look that way.

Thanks for the input Martin. I did come to decide on the 70-200 initially because it seemed to be a popular choice among photographers doing the kind of work I’d like to do.

I think I might rent it along with the 135mm and work with both for a day. Seeing them in action might just help with the decision.

Since you seem to know your lenses very well MMX and because I do want to be perfect (rather than good!), I’m trusting your advice over the sales guy :D

No, that would be perfect, but you´re not doing this. You´re asking us to build them for you and that´s what makes the difference

MMX you cannot claim that edg3 is not trying to build a foundation in photography because he asks a question on a ‘photography’ forum in the beginners section instead of reading a wiki page (as you suggest) or researching elsewhere on the Internet. As arrogant as you are, you don’t have the right to dictate how people choose to learn.

Quick update. I have been advised by a sales guy in the Camera Centre that EF 135 f/2L lens will require me to be quite a distance from the subject & therefore requires lots of space? For fashion shots, he recommended the 24-105 f4 L that comes with the kit.

    Any thoughts?
