    Thanks for the replies.
here’s the original of the photo before I cropped the foreground out.
I didn’t like the light on the ground and I thought the slope of it took away from the over all picture.

And Finally the entire field. Took this one quickly for my brother in law. shows his planning notice. Nice place for a house !!

Thanks for all the comments, I spent hours on the beach that night and have almost 150 shots of the sunset. Every time I flick through them I find a new favourite. It’s great to get other peoples comments.

Here’s 2 more from the same night

Massive crop Dave, I was home for lunch and spotted the redpoles in the garden, They have never being here before. I just grabbed the camera and took a few shots from the back door.
My 250mm lens just isn’t enough to get close to them and once I walked outside they were gone.
I agree a natural perch would be better and I might get that yet. I’ve another feeder at the back of the garden in a tree I might hide in the shed and see if I can get them :D

I wasn’t sure about B3’s crop suggestion until you did it – good example of the rule of thirds, certainly along the top.

Try a levels layer and a contrast layer, changing the different settings in each.

Can certainly feel the cold, just looking at it.

Haven’t got software that will allow me to work with layers, only using PhotoFiltre. I must buy photoshop and learn how to use it.

Thanks lads, It’s a lot to think about and to be fair I’ve taken some shots with my 250 that I’ve being very happy with.
What annoys me is if I spot something I have a look through the binoculars and it’s something that I’d really love to photograph, pick up the camera and it’s just short of what I need.
Best example is. There’s cliffs I walk along in Kerry during the summer and I can see birds nesting on the shelves below, no need for binoculars, but I can’t get a good picture :?
Hard to know whats best and I can’t spend a small fortune

Yeah I like it too. I must buy photoshop to see what I can really do. At the moment I’m just using PhotoFiltre :P

So would my cannon 55-250mm 1:4-5.6 IS lens work with a 2x converter?
