Photography is an art but shouldn’t there be at least minimum standard to adhere to like insurance, tax compliant, garda clearance and some form of qualification. Without any standards in this industry there will always be cowboys and as long as there are cowboys there will always be photographers given a bad name.

I was always interested in photography, always trying to learn more and develop my skills. I never charged anyone untill I had full insurance and my business set up 100 per cent. I dont think it is fair that people can go out calling themselves pro photographers who have just bought a digital camera and are looking for a quick few bob.

Unfortunately when some people see a great price they think there getting a great deal they dont look into the finer details like. Its such a shame hopefully one day the industry will be regulated properly there is just too many cowboys in this industry and certain sites in dublin where so called pro photographers offering photographic service for little or no money.

They were happy with the quality of samples on the photographers website now the samples are small selection after looking at the website myself i would not have advised to book this person because its not a great sample of wedding photographs. They contacted the photographer after receiving the photos and explained they were not happy and he said he would get back in touch with them but they have not heard anything and all emails and calls go unanswered.

Its just so hard watching someone you know go thru this when it should be the happiest time of there lives. It is unblievable to think that the industry is still not regulated. Like anyone at the moment can pretty much grab a camera and call themselves a pro photographer the sooner its regulated the better.

The best way to get into it would be to contact a few wedding photographers and explain to them your interest and see if they would let you do 2nd shooter.

Public liability is the one the hotels / venues will look for but i would also strongly recommend getting public indemnity for your own peace of mind like the previous posters have said camerainsurance.ie are very good. Id recommend camerainsurance.ie for great service and price.

Make sure you get insurance there is a lot of hotels asking to see insurance and the last thing you want is to arrive at a reception and not get in because you have no insurance. Make sure you have a second camera with you. I have heard of so many stories where a camera has just stopped working.

I know a few people who have ordered from pixmania and they have never had any problems.

If you want to get into weddings try contact a few photographers and see if they would let you act as a second shooter or if you have friends getting married see can you act a second photographer. I would advise getting experience doing weddings before looking for clients because weddings can be quiet stressful and there is a lot to remember and know.

Great topic and some great points. I tend to shy away from doing photographs for family and friends and its for all the reasons discussed above especially the fat that if you take shots for a paying couple you will tell them what location to go to and everything is perfect but family if they moan or say look just take it here its easier to give in and just take it. I have learned that when i take pictures no matter who it is for paying couple or family friends I never let anyone see the results on the camera and i load all the photographs onto the computer and only give the client the photographs that i am happy with. it will cut out a lot of hassle for you and make things easier.

Don’t worry about taking 5 shots and just getting 1 good shot especially when you have a few people in the shot because you will always get people blinking at different times so best to take 5 shots then when you edit it you see the shot with all eyes open.

thats a very good price, I always think its not worth doing jobs for friends of the family etc.. because they always expect everything to be done for nothing I feel. I would actually feel that the extra price for the album and prints of €250 is very very cheap.

I like both shots I think I feel the first one is my favorite just slightly. I think there is just something attracting me to the first. I also would prefer to see the bulb removed.

I would say them prices are a good starting point and then as you build up a nice portfolio for yourself you can increase your price. Wedding albums there is a few different suppliers if your going the traditional style route http://www.jmphoto.ie , http://www.italianweddingalbums.com Just remember to get insurance to just have that piece of mind.

Best of luck, wedding photography can be stressful but to capture moments a couple will treasure forever is an amazing feeling.
