I have spent hours on the WWW reading up on aperture v lightroom an may run with lightroom. I am using nikon Nx to convert my raw , 30 day trial . I need to up grade my mac to 10.4.8 for trial aperture . Nx seems popular enough in the u.s, any users in ireland? The fact that aperture is an apple product may fit together better for me.Someone advised me to upgrade to cs3 as it has goob raw handling features!! More decisions/research..
Thanks again Thorsten . I am at the extreme green end of the spectrum when it comes to raw but am now keen to explore and find out where this leads me. I like the way you describe your journey , frustrations etc. Learning digital capture, workflow etc was once described to me like eating an elephant, one small bite at a time!!I think i`ve just about completed his tail to date! Tom :sick
Thanks T, I couldn`t agree with you more on jpeg v raw etc nikon v canon for that matter also. I think Iwill purchase Aperture , Tim is more than happy with it . Still no reply from any nikon Nx for raw users! Thorsten , you wouldn`t have a link to explain why you find Raw workflow more efficient than jpeg, please and thanks.
Hi Damien, I could do with a this lens for the 4 or 5 times per annum that my 17/55 falls short. Why are you selling and and what is your best price? Tom
Thanks for your views folks, please keep them coming! If you shoot weddings ,as I do, all in Jpeg I add; does it make sence to have the images in raw as well in case your exposure or w.b is off on the odd shot that you might like to include in the finished album. D oesn`t raw give more latitude. Most pros,I am told shoot weddings in Jpeg . Any nikonians using Nx for raw? Tom.
The price difference jerry is 1000 euro approx. I use 4800 with matte black with 110 ml ink carts.I also bought a full set {8} 220ml which cost a massive 900 euro but will last a long time plus hopefully pay for themselves and more in time. Epson give a six month life on 4800 ink once opened, so dont buy 220carts at first until you see what printing miles are clocked up . Tom.
Forgive me please , it was a mean god dam awful post. To lighten matters or even dig or bigger hole Andy i will first try with a limerick:
I am a young snapper called tommy
Who liked to expose on a bronny,
The pixels are great
they keep me up late
but I still prefer the oold trannie!
Thorsten, you will go pro, and when you do your life will never be the same. I am not a pro shooter but have covered on average of 20 weddings per annum since 1994. Shooting medium format all the way I was slow to embrace digital .Last year was my first year fully digital and have invested heavily on new gear.My work is as good as many so called pros IMO.You spend a lot of time on photo ireland and seem very knowledgable on matters digital. I get an expert in two/ three times a year to fine tune my skills on Cs ,printer etc. All pros want good actions ,droplets etc. Could you perhaps do some of this type of work as well as photography initially. It took me a few years to get my name out there so dont expect things to happen over night. Are you a likeable guy, do you like dealing with people? Shootings weddings aaaaare different to one on one model work [no pun intended].I have a little shop with two smashing display windows which i have neglected but by summer i plan to give the place a pro feel and sell landscape, people shots, street scenes .etc. I am in now to make money, buy more good kit and try to chill out about what the hell anyone thinks of my work. I try to put an artistic feel to my work but find that often the plain simple bog standard images sell better for me. Again, you will take the plunge but while you are waiting for the dosh to roll or trickle in, do a few odd jobs to keep gas in the motor etc Best wishes. Tom.
hi dman, what is the cost new of D2xs? why are you selling the beast ?Is D3x to be launched soon? could be interested in camera only depending on replys to my queries ?
Thanks phil and gerry, the imagelife range by permajet seem to offer what i,m looking for at present. I hear good things also jerry about fuji pearl for wedding work but at present I get a lab to print mine, far more scratch resistant !!
What a pity……..I had a post here just a few weeks ago looking for just that item. When none turned up I bought a new one. Anyway…….if you have a studio and lighting then one should consider this as it gets your lights and cables off the floor and easier to move about when necessary.
Gerry, what would the current price of my system be, i dont want to over price but want a fair price!! Tom.
