This shot doesn’t have the normal HDR look so unless you said it I doubt I would have copped it. However, the clouds seem a bit strange to me. They appear to be pin sharp whereas the tops of the mountains aren’t. As both are a good distance from the camera I would have expected them to have the same sharpness. Maybe it’s because I’m expecting this to be a long exposure shot and usually clouds display motion blur in these.
Nearly 60 views and no comments. Well, I’ll give it my best.
There’s only one thing bugging me about this shot. That’s the main building facing us in the foreground. The fact that the top is cut off makes me want to duck my head and look up to see if I can see it. Perhaps it’s a church or something with tall spires that means you can’t get the top but it bugs me.
I noted in one of your other comments the lack of interaction that has crept into this site. I’d agree. I suppose there are just so many competing outlets for people’s photos now.
However, I do like this site for the negative feedback (constructive criticism I believe is the politically correct term). It’s something you don’t get on other sites.
Best of luck with the book. Like Beeker I can’t understand why there aren’t more replies. It’s an unusual shot of an unusual subject. Green lighting always seems to come out very strong. I’ve noticed this in a few photos of my own and had to tone it down quite a bit. Probably would have gone a bit earlier myself and tried to get some light in the sky.
Don’t know what to tell you about the photos. I only stopped by to check out the competition as I just posted a few of surfers myself. I think I was in a slightly warmer location!
Do you know, I think the work “silhouette” frightens people off. The moon really makes a difference to this shot. It really helps the composition by balancing and contrasting with the tree. I like it.
Thanks for all the kind comments. I was about 2 weeks late for the full autumn colours. Many of the trees are already bare at this altitude (it’s a little way up a mountain). I would have liked to go into the field to take more shots because from another viewpoint I could see several old rusted cars behind the shed. But when someone posts 6 “no trespassing” signs in this neck of the woods I take notice.
Sorry John, none of the truck on it’s own. Couldn’t get close enough. There were warning signs all over the place about trespassing so i didn’t dare set foot inside the gate. Guys around these parts carry guns!
Many thanks for the comments. Believe me, I spent enough hours here waiting for the perfect time of day. And I was freezing. The wind was gusting so much I had to stand the tripod to one side of a pillar to keep it from shaking. And just as I was feeling sorry for myself along came a bridal party complete with photographer for the wedding photos. The bride had on a dress that I could only describe as perfect for a balmy summer’s evening. How she could stand still in the wind for photos I’ve no idea.
