Hi Steve, cheers for taking a look and your thoughtful feedback. I can see what you mean about the persective being a little unusual, but that’s why I’m quite fond of this shot. I do think I see what you mean about trying a different style of composition that might have drawn more attention to the scenery rather than the boat itself. Here’s another shot from the same day, that may be a little more up your street.
Thanks again for the feedback, I think y’all are right about black and white lacking in contrast, I tried to recover too many of the shadows I guess. As for the sky shutterbug, I see what you mean about there being a lot of emptiness, but sometimes I like to split my pictures down the middle to give my shots a feeling of calm, so I don’t want to fool about with it anymore.
Here’s another two shots of the same Ballybay Wetlands on a different evening that I hope don’t suffer from the same problems. Let me know what you think….
Thanks very much for the feedback. I think you’re right about a monochrome version being interesting. This shot is a little bit too contrasty cause of too much direct sunlight, but in monochrome I think it’s not so noticable and cause of the bridge leading the eye in like you said I think it still looks pretty dynamic.
cheers for the critique, but I think if I cropped out the part of the sky where the sun peeps through the clouds as well as the foreground I’d be left with a very wide angle shot without very much to see in it anyhow. For me, the sky is the show in this picture and what makes this shot interesting is that the sky reflecting in the water dominates the shot rather than the other way around as is usual. Fair comments about the watermark, but I’ve got to try and protect my shots somehow! Anyways thanks for taking a look and offering your viewpoint.
Thanks, glad you like it! I can’t’ give you the exact location cause I’m not really sure how to describe it, but if you are in Youghal just go on the to the big long strand on the right hand side of the town towards Cork and keep on walking for a couple of miles I guess. There are lots of posts all the way up the beach that make for some interesting shots. I hope that helps!
Thanks a lot for the comments and critiques. I prefer the widescreen shot rather than the portrait cause I like catching all those lights dimmed by the fog. I also intentionally used the lines to draw in the viewer, so cheers for noticing.
Thanks very much for the comments, they are all much appreciated. I’ve got to agree with shutterlight though that a lower perspective wouldn’t add much to the pic, if anything I’d have liked to get higher up to add more some more drama to the image. This shot was taken on the fly though, and the lady’s silhoutte is as it is because she turned around at just that moment to see where all the clicking noisees she was hearing were coming out of. I do agree with you all that monochrome might be a little more interesting as well though, and I could do with losing some sky. Here it is again in black and white with a bit more cropping, I hope y’all like it.
Thanks a lot for the feedback, although I really don’t think I can afford to crop this pic anymore as I already got rid of the sand in the foreground that I found a little distracting. I think the rocks are in focus but you might be right in that they could do with brightening up a little. Perhaps this picture is a little better that was taken a little later in the evening from the same spot.
Hey Gerry, thanks a lot for such a detailed response. I didn’t spot that the horizon was slightly off, but thanks for pointing it out. I’ll get to straightening it out now. I don’t use photoshop so I won’t be cloning the rocks out, but I think you’re right about losing a bit of the sky, it was pretty drab anyhow so no great loss. It’s also really good to hear that you checked out my blog and liked my landscapes, much appreciated!
Hey thanks a lot for the kind comment, it’s one of my own favorite shots. Although, it has to be said that nature did most of the work by providing a great sunset! It’s a just pity that there ain’t been so many this summer.
Hey thanks for the critique and comments. I can see what you mean about the lighting t’wasn’t the best really. Being overcast meant that I couldn’t make the shutter speeed as fast as I’d have liked to combat all that boat rocking. The slope doesn’t bother me so much though, cause it is extremely slight and a perfectly flat horizon isn’t always so important to me. I’m going to brighten it up a bit on the computer and maybe ease up on the contrast and I reckon it’ll pass muster. Cheers for taking a look.
